About Your Board Nominees

uncle-sam-wants-youKeep an eye out for the electronic ballot coming soon via email; election results will follow in the coming weeks. Our outstanding SDAFP leadership starts with you. You and your elected leaders bridge the gap between your practice and public policy. They advocate for YOU, your patients and family medicine.

Read more about the Board nominees below:

Jim Schultz, MD:  Dr. Schultz has been practicing Family Medicine in San Diego County since 1988.  He initially worked with the Graybill Medical Group.  He is now the Medical Director of Neighborhood Healthcare.  He is also a Volunteer Associate Clinical Professor for the UCSD Department of Family and Preventive Medicine.  He currently serves as the North County Director for the San Diego County Medical Society.  Dr. Schultz brings experience to the board as a physician involved with inpatient as well as outpatient care, in addition to being seen as a leader in the field of organized medicine.

Will Chung, MD:  Dr. Chung graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2006.  He completed his residency in 2009 at the Scripps Family Medicine Residency.  He currently practices at Imperial Beach Health Center as well as Nestor Community Health Center.  He is also the Chair of Family Medicine at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista.  Dr. Chung is interested in networking with other leaders in the Family Medicine community as well as increasing his understanding in terms of political advocacy.  In this way he hopes to influence the direction of primary care in San Diego and enhance support for community clinics.

John Dawkins, MD:  Dr. Dawkins graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2007, where he served as Class President for 2 years.  He completed his Family Medicine training at UCSD as a Chief Resident in 2010. He holds a CAQ in Sports Medicine (WFU 2011). He is a founding Physician with CWWMB, an organization which provides medical services to patients in rural Honduras. He also serves as a Board Member for VIDA, a non-profit organization that provides medical, dental and veterinary services throughout Central America.  He is eager to continue in a leadership role as an SDAFP board member where he can contribute to improving medical training and the collective ability to deliver quality and compassionate care to our patients.

Heidi Meyer, MD:  Dr. Meyer describes herself as ‘a very enthusiastic family physician’.  Dr. Meyer completed medical school at UCSD in 2008, followed by a residency program in Family Medicine at University of Arizona where she also completed their pilot ‘Integrative Medicine in Residency’ Certificate Program.  She served as Resident Member on the American Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors as a third year resident from 2010-2011.  Prior to this, she served as Resident Member for the Arizona Academy of Family Physicians.  She also served as National Resident Delegate for the AAFP Congress of Delegates.  Her passions include health policy and integrative medicine.  She believes the incorporation of both of these components will ultimately improve healthcare in the United States.  Dr. Meyer  feels that both physicians AND patients are grossly under-informed regarding the way healthcare is delivered (or not delivered) as well as how doctors are paid.  She states that ‘This alone is something Family Medicine Physicians can change.’  Dr. Meyer brings the passion of a new physician and ‘Gen X’r’ who can bridge the pre and post EMR/social media generations as well as being able to provide solid Board Room experience.  She appreciates any opportunity to be able to serve her specialty.

Jenny Wong, MD: Dr. Wong is a family medicine physician in private practice at Coronado Medical Group which is affiliated with SHARP Coronado Hospital in San Diego. She did her undergraduate education at University of California, Irvine. She then attended medical school at The David Geffen School of Medicine, part of the University of California, Los Angeles. She completed residency at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in 2008. Dr. Wong feels privileged to have been nominated for the SDAFP Board of Directors and would be honored to be a part of this organization. She is interested in becoming a strong advocate for patients and other family medicine physicians, especially her colleagues in San Diego. She has enjoyed attending the annual SDAFP Symposium regularly for the last several years. She would like the opportunity to become more involved in the planning of this meeting as well as other educational programs that the SDAFP provides which have been outstanding. Dr. Wong states, ‘As a young, enthusiastic, hard-working physician, I feel that I can make a contribution for family medicine and look forward to promoting our wonderful specialty.
