“Help raise funds for your San Diego Academy of Family Physicians while simultaneously supporting the research programs of the Division of Family Medicine at the UCSD School of Medicine”
For almost 10 years, the Physician Assessment and Clinical Education (PACE) program at UCSD has been assessing physicians referred by the medical boards of California, Arizona, and other entities. These physicians are referred because of disciplinary actions or other problems related to quality of patient care.
The PACE Program has accumulated a large body of data on disciplined physicians, but unfortunately, we have very little data about physicians who have never been disciplined by a state medical board.
The PACE program is seeking physicians who have never been disciplined by a state medical board to serve as a comparison group. (Note: It is okay if you have been investigated by a state medical board, but never been disciplined. It is relatively common for a state medical board to investigate a case, but decide there is no necessity to go forward with discipline.)
In an effort to advance our testing technology and to identify factors associated with circumstances that result in physician discipline, we seek competent, community-based physicians who have never been disciplined by a state medical board.
Participation in this risk-free, completely confidential research can be as easy as completing one 9-page questionnaire and one 3-page questionnaire, for which we will reimburse you $50. We hope you will donate this money to the SDAFP, but the choice is yours.
PACE testing in the research setting is completely confidential and includes post-licensure NBME examinations and other computer-administered examinations, as well as paper & pencil survey/exams. Results are shared with each physician, but then de-identified and aggregated into the PACE research database – performance cannot be used in marketing or credentialing (though may be good practice for recertification).
Compensation of $50 is available for each segment (1 - 2 hours) of the assessment; physicians choose how many segments you wish to complete. Physicians may wish to voluntarily donate their compensation to the SDAFP or other non-profit entity.
